Oasis on Mackenzie
Oasis on Mackenzie — Your Peaceful Corner of the Melbourne CBD
Sitting at the quieter northern end of the CBD, close to Carlton Gardens, this one-bedroom apartment in the popular 33M residential complex proves you don’t have to trade CBD convenience for a bit of calm. It’s fully furnished, genuinely light-filled, and looks out over green views and the building’s swimming pool rather than a wall of concrete — a peaceful outlook that’s rarer than it should be this close to the middle of the city.
The Space
Approximately 40m², one bedroom, one bathroom.
What You Actually Get
The queen bedroom has a built-in robe and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the room with light. The European-style kitchen is properly equipped, with a Miele oven and stovetop, a dishwasher and a fridge — not just the bare minimum. Reverse cycle air conditioning covers the living area, and there’s a European laundry with both washer and dryer, so longer stays don’t mean a trip to a laundromat. The bathroom is chic and functional, with a built-in mirrored cupboard and a good-sized shower. The living area has a dining table, a comfy couch, and a Smart TV with Netflix included. The balcony is the real drawcard — a green view that’s genuinely good for after-work drinks or a slow Sunday coffee, and it’s easy to forget you’re in the CBD at all once you’re out there. For longer stays, guests can arrange access to the building’s pool and gym, though inductions only run on Wednesdays, so it’s worth planning ahead if that’s part of the appeal.
The Location, Without the Spin
You’re close enough to the city’s landmarks that you’ll use them, and far enough from the noise that you won’t mind coming home. The Old Melbourne Gaol, State Library and the Exhibition Buildings are all a short walk, along with QV and Melbourne Central if you need the shops or a cinema fix, and Lygon Street’s restaurants and cafés are just up the road when you’re after a proper meal. Public transport is genuinely easy here too — trams within the city grid are free, and the nearest stop is a short walk to the corner of La Trobe and Russell Street, where the No. 86 runs from Waterfront City to Bundoora via Bourke Street, and the No. 96 connects East Brunswick to St Kilda Beach.
Where to Eat (We’ve Actually Been)
- Epocha, Carlton Gardens — European fare in a double-storey terrace overlooking the gardens; head up to Hannah’s Bar after for a gin cocktail.
- University Café, Lygon St — a genuine Carlton institution, laid-back and unmistakably Italian.
- Smith & Daughters — plant-based and genuinely excellent, close by near the gardens.
- Rice Paper Scissors — fresh, punchy Vietnamese, a reliable local favourite.
- Prologue Cafe, Russell St — an easy, stylish coffee stop for the mornings you’re staying local.
Parking, Sorted
There’s no dedicated car park at this property, but two-hour street parking is available nearby, and there’s a GoGet car share pod and Flexicar right out front if you need wheels for the day.
